Jaguars sign 3 free agents
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed four unrestricted free agents in defensive tackle Roy Miller, running back Justin Forsett, cornerback Alan Ball and cornerback Antwaun Molden, the club announced today.
Forsett, 5-8, 194, has played in 78 games with seven starts since entering the NFL as a seventh-round pick of Seattle in 2008. He spent three games as a rookie with Indianapolis before he was re-signed by the Seahawks the same year. He played in all 16 games for the Houston Texans in 2012. His career totals include 341 rushes for 1,661 yards and eight touchdowns along with 100 receptions for 768 yards and one touchdown. He also sees action as a return specialist and has 46 career punt returns for a 8.1-yard average and 38 kickoff returns for a 23.0-yard average.
A native of Mulberry, Fla., Forsett rushed for 374 yards and 63 carries with one touchdown for the Texans in 2012. He compiled a career-high 619 yards on 114 rushes (5.4 avg.) with four touchdowns in 2009 for Seattle along with a career-best 41 receptions for 350 yards and one score. He played collegiately at California where he ranked third in school history with 3,220 rushing yards and was fourth with 26 career rushing touchdowns. He spent his freshman and sophomore years at Polk High School in Mulberry, Fla., before his family moved to Texas where he attended Grace Prep Academy in Arlington.
Ball, 6-2, 197, is in his sixth NFL season after spending five years (2007-11) with the Dallas Cowboys and the 2012 campaign with the Houston Texans. The former seventh-round draft pick has played in 71 career games with 22 starts, recording 108 tackles (93 solo), three interceptions, 17 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He has 38 career special teams tackles including a career-high 13 in 2012.
Ball played in 11 games for the Texans with one start. He started all 16 games for the Cowboys at free safety in 2010 and registered a career-high 45 tackles and two interceptions. He was a four-year letterman at Illinois where he finished his career with 199 tackles, two interceptions and eight tackles for loss. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he attended St. Martin De Porres where he lettered in football and track.
Miller, 6-2, 310, spent the last four seasons with Tampa Bay after being selected in the third round (81st overall) of the 2009 draft. He has played in 62 games with 34 starts at defensive tackle and posted 156 tackles, three sacks and three passes defensed. He has missed only two games in four seasons.
The Killeen, Texas native started 14 of 15 games for the Buccaneers in 2012 and finished with 23 tackles, two tackles for loss and one pass defensed.
Miller played collegiately at Texas and started 19 of 49 games in four seasons. He finished his career with 25 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and 44 quarterback pressures. He prepped at Shoemaker High School where he was a two-time all-state and three-time all-district selection.
Molden, 6-1, 199, played in three games for the Jaguars in 2012 after signing as a free agent on November 27. He has played in 51 games with two starts since entering the NFL as a third-round draft pick of Houston in 2008. His career totals include 29 tackles, three passes defensed, two interceptions and 39 special teams tackles. He spent three seasons (2008-10) with the Texans. He played in all 16 games and three postseason games for New England in 2011 and was with the New York Giants for the 2012 preseason.
