Leafs F Kessel leads NHL All-Star voting

Phil Kessel's scorching start to the season has not gone unnoticed by the fans.

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward jumped into the lead of fan voting for NHL All-Star game with 258,446 votes. Kessel leads the league 16 goals and 31 points this season.

Ottawa defenseman Erik Karlsson is second with 256,839 votes, followed by Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson with 233,868.

Boston's Tim Thomas leads all goaltenders with 175,315 votes.

The annual exhibition game will take place at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa on Jan. 29. Fan voting for starting spots ends Jan. 4.
