Denard Robinson changes jersey number

Jaguars rookie switches to 16, the number he wore in high school and college

JACKSONVILLE – You can expect to see a lot of No. 16 jerseys at Jaguars games this fall. Denard Robinson switched from 29 to 16, the same number he wore in high school and college.

"I asked when I got here," Robinson said about the jersey request. "But I'm a rookie man. I gotta earn that respect."

It all started when the Jaguars waived Taylor Price on Monday, who wore the number 15 jersey. Robinson approached wide receiver Jordan Shipley and asked if Shipley would switch from 16 to 15. Most players charge a fee to give up their number, but not Shipley.

"This was a smooth transaction," Robinson said. "Shipley's a good guy. But I don't think he had any ties to it."

The Jags will call on Robinson often, as evidenced by the depth chart. Robinson is listed at five different positions: quarterback, running back, wide receiver, kick returner and punt returner.

"He's going to have opportunities to line up all over the place," head coach Gus Bradley said. "In the preseason, we don't know. We'll see what happens with that. But he has the abilities and he's learning. He's got a lot of pressure to learn. Hopefully it doesn't turn into stress where it creates anxiety."
