Jaguars get roster down to 53

The team was given a roster exemption for WR Justin Blackmon and his 4-game suspension

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars made 21 roster moves today to reduce their roster to 54 players. The Jaguars will receive a roster exemption on Saturday for wide receiver Justin Blackmon who will serve a four-game suspension to begin the regular season.


Twelve veteran players were released or waived today in WR Jeremy Ebert, DE Pannel Egboh, RB Jonathan Grimes, QB Mike Kafka, LB Brandon Marshall, WR Charly Martin, OT Pat McQuistan, G Drew Nowak, CB Kevin Rutland, DT D'Anthony Smith, LB Julian Stanford and CB Marcus Trufant.

Two first-year players were waived – WR Toney Clemons and DE Ryan Davis

There were also seven rookies waived including DT T.J. Barnes, OT R.J. Dill, TE Ryan Otten, WR Tobais Palmer, QB Matt Scott, S Steven Terrell and LB Mike Zimmer.

"It's always tough to let go of men that have played such an important role in what we are building here," Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said. "We are excited to get the 2013 regular season underway and we will continue to compete on a daily basis to build the best roster possible."

NFL teams may begin signing practice squad players at noon on Sunday.
