Jaguars sign G/C Stefen Wisniewski

Wisniewski started 61 games for Oakland over the past 4 seasons

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars signed unrestricted free agent center Stefen Wisniewski, the club announced today. Wisniewski started 61 games (46 at center, 15 at guard) over the past four seasons (2011-14) with the Oakland Raiders.

"We had the opportunity to spend time with Stefen earlier this month and remained in contact with him with the hopes of getting a deal done," Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell said. "We are excited to get him on board before we officially start our offseason conditioning program next week. He gives us great position flexibility along our offensive line as he has started at both center and guard during his career. He has a familiarity with our offensive system and brings a lot of experience to our offensive line room. "

Wisniewski, 6-3, 307, was a second-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2011 draft. He played under Jaguars offensive coordinator Greg Olson the last two seasons in Oakland. He started all 16 games at center in 2014 and was part of an offensive line that allowed only 28 sacks, the sixth-fewest in the NFL. In 2013, he made 14 starts at center while the Raiders ranked 12th in the NFL in rushing (125.0), sixth in yards per rush (4.6) and third with 18 rushes of 20-plus yards. The Raiders became the first team since 1978 to have four different players record a 100-yard rushing game in the same season.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Wisniewski started 15 games in 2012 at center. He began his NFL career at left guard where he made 15 starts and one start at center as a rookie. He was named to the Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie Team and was part of a unit that conceded only 25 sacks, the fewest in franchise history and third-lowest in the NFL.

Wisniewski was a four-year starter at Penn State, playing in 47 games with 38 starts, and was the program's first three-time Academic All-American. He started 38 of his final 39 games, with 25 at right guard and 13 at center. Wisniewski earned first-team All-America honors as a senior from the NFL Draft Report and the American Football Coaches Association. He returned to right guard as a senior after starting at center during his junior season.

Wisniewski attended Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh where he was a two-time first-team all-state selection as an offensive lineman. His father, Leo, lettered at Penn State from 1979-81 and played four seasons with the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts after being selected in the second round of the 1982 NFL Draft. His uncle, Steve Wisniewski, was an All-America guard at Penn State and an eight-time NFL All-Pro selection during a 13-year playing career with the Raiders.
