Jaguars to start McClendon at center

Jacques McClendon will start at center for the Jaguars in their season opener against the Eagles.

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars will start Jacques McClendon at center when they face the Eagles on Sunday in week 1 of the regular season.

McClendon beat out rookie Luke Bowanko and Mike Brewster for the starting job. The Jaguars parted ways with Brewster on Friday after a poor preseason showing.

McClendon has played just nine games in his five seasons in the NFL. He made two starts for the Jaguars last season at left guard.

Gus Bradley said McClendon's experience in the NFL helped him earn the job over Bowanko, a sixth-round pick out of Virginia.

"We feel that Luke still has an upside," Bradley said. "He'll continue to compete in the reps that he gets, but we just felt at this point in time, Jacques is the guy."
