INDIANAPOLIS (WXIN) -

A semitrailer hauling boxes of dairy products spilled on Interstate 465 on the south side of Indianapolis around 3:30 Friday morning. The 45,000 pounds of cargo tipped out of the truck, sending butter and whipped cream onto the interstate at the 0.8 mile marker near Madison Avenue.

The driver was not seriously injured. Initial reports indicate he may have fallen asleep at the wheel or gotten distracted. The area is a work zone but there were no workers at the site when the crash happened.

State police have closed the right two eastbound lanes to clear the mess and expect it to be several hours before the scene is clear, possibly 8:00 a.m.
