Battle of the seasons underway

A chilly, overcast Sunday has given way to a mostly sunny and warmer Monday as the easterly winds turned from the south. These southerly winds will help drive temperatures well into the 80s on Wednesday ahead of a strong polar cold front that will bring a big drop in temperatures and the possibility of severe weather for most of southeastern Georgia late Wednesday night into very early Thursday.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued it's first moderate risk of the year for portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee for Tuesday. That risk of severe weather will shift east into Georgia heading into late Wednesday night and early Thursday. At this time, it appears as though most of the stronger thunderstorms will be confined to Georgia at this time.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, most of the heavier rainfall (approximately an inch) will coincide with the slight risk area in southern Georgia with lighter rain amounts elsewhere across Florida. Most of the forecast area is expected to get wet with rainfall accumulations of generally a half inch or less.
Behind the cold front, skies will turn crystal clear on Thursday and much chillier air rushes in. High temperatures Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be parked in the low to mid 60s with overnight lows down close to freezing for some of the more rural areas of southern Georgia and mid 30s for Florida on Friday. At this time, a freeze is not anticipated locally but will have to be monitored for changes. It is not out of the question that frost or freeze advisories may be needed heading into the end of the week.
Since I'm not privy to a ''Gaughan Gauge," I'll say that on a scale of 1 to 238,857 (the number of miles from the Earth to the Moon on average), I'd give this week a 119,428.5. That's exactly half because this week's weather will please both the warm and cold weather lovers alike as well as those who love the rain and those who don't. Enjoy!
