Winter, Spring separated by 300 miles

Just to our north in Atlanta, the National Weather Service has issued Freezing Rain Advisories, Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings all across northern Georgia, including Atlanta, as well as Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina.

The Atlanta metro will be spared most of the icy problems. Light icing is expected mainly on bridges and overpasses with more significant icing issues north of the city. That being said, travel delays at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are possible on Friday.

In far northerneastern Georgia, Winter Storm Warnings are up for heavier icing of up to 1/4" may be possible in the north Georgia mountains. Travel will become exceptionally hazardous there with power outages and downed trees possible due to the weight of the ice.

Meanwhile in Tennessee, Nashville and Chatanooga are gearing up for icing issues there as well. Nearly the entire state of Tennessee is under some sort of winter weather advisory or warning. A mixture of sleet and ice with accumulations of up to .2" is likely across much of the area and extremely dangerous travel issues are anticipated on Friday.

It's quite a different story on the south side of that cold front. Temperatures have once again tickled the lower 70s Thursday and will again on Friday before the front sags south into our region. Saturday appears to be the coolest of the next seven with highs in the upper 60s for many of us before rebounding big time into the lower and mid 70s by the early and middle part of next week. Rain chances appear to be rather slim for the next week as our atmosphere remains devoid of any significant mositure.
