JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The biggest cool down of the season may be upon us by the end of next week and may even bring a bit of the white stuff as far south as the mountains of North Carolina and northern Georgia.
Of course we live in Florida, so there will be no chance of snow here. It takes a miracle to get snow here in January, much less November, but nonetheless we're in for a big cool down by Thursday.

A building dome of high pressure is forecast to develop in Canada by the weekend and drop south into the heartland by next week. With that high could be the coldest air this season for much of the United States. That includes Jacksonville.
Assuming that the models continue to advertise this strong polar cold front, expect high temperatures to struggle to get much above 60°F on Thursday and lows dropping into the 30s area wide by Friday morning.
It could be so cold across the area that lawyers will have their hands in their own pockets! Small joke.

As mentioned, one computer model (the European model--shown above and provided by meteorologist Joe Bastardi) shows a wide spread swath of measurable snowfall from Birmingham to Atlanta through much of North Carolina, Virginia through Washington DC and into the northeast. However, this is the outlying model as the Canadian and the GFS model show a drier, not as cold scenario which we will side with at this time.
Again, little or no snow is expected at this time for north Georgia or the Carolinas.
It would be nearly unprecedented for snow to fall that far south this early in the season. According to the National Weather Service, accumulating snowfall has never occurred in Atlanta during the month of November.
Truth be told, it won't happen this year either.
As for Jacksonville's weather, a significant cool down is here for your Friday. Expect temperatures to remain in the 60s for Jacksonville for Friday with overnight lows well into the 40s heading into Saturday morning. Nor'easter conditions will once again set up as high pressure settles off to our northeast. That means breezy weather, cloudy and scattered showers will be back in the forecast by Monday.
The 'big' cold front is scheduled for arrival on Thursday.
The cold air is just in time. Friday morning, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrived which will be erected just in time for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! So while it may not look like Christmas here yet, it'll feel like it soon.
