Friday's freezing forecast

Published On: Jan 03 2014 09:12:27 AM EST

Temperatures dipped below freezing early Friday for 2-4 hours, mainly for inland areas.   Inland counties were under a Freeze Warning from 3:00 am until 9:00 am, and all counties were under a Wind Chill Advisory.  Wind chills measured between 20° and 35° for several hours Friday morning. Winds were sustained between 10 and 25 mph out of the North, with gusts above 30 mph.

Clear skies during the day allow temperatures to climb into the low to mid 40's for an afternoon high, but winds out of the North ranging between 15-25 mph, with higher gusts keep things feeling like the mid to upper 30's at the warmest.

Temperatures dip below freezing again tonight, placing inland counties under another Freeze Warning for 3:00-9:00 am, with temperatures ranging from 26° to 32°. With the temperatures anticipated for Saturday morning, residents should protect their outdoor pets, tender, tropical, or freshly planted plants, and take care to heat their homes safely.  The elderly can be particularly susceptible to the cold, please check on those who may struggle to stay warm.  Pipes are not in danger of freezing Saturday morning, but that may be a concern by Tuesday morning.

After another freezing start Saturday morning, expect a weekend warm up, ending Sunday afternon in the 70's.  Another cold front heads our way Monday, dropping temperatures well below freezing by the middle of the work week.
