Icy forecast gradually thaws

After a near-freezing start for most of us, temperatures will climb into the 40s during the afternoon hours on Thursday under cloudy skies.

Temperatures along and to the north of Interstate 10 ranged  from 28°to 33°, starting Thursday off with potential for patches of ice on overpasses and bridges. To the south of I-10, temperatures ranged from 34° to 39° with passing showers and brisk winds, all making for a chilly feeling start to the day.

After 8 a.m., the hard freeze warning and freeze warnings expired, along with the winter weather advisory as temperatures climbed above freezing under cloudy skies.

Chances for passing showers in southern and coastal areas fade slowly as the showers push offshore by mid day.

Expect gradual afternoon clearing, from the NW to the SE, accompanied by gusty winds that eventually die down late Thursday.  Winds are out of the north between 10 and 20 mph.

Those that fail to clear by the evening hours will clear overnight, as temperatures sink into the upper 30s and low 40s. A light freeze is possible across inland southeast Georgia.

Friday, expect mostly clear skies and temperatures climbing to 64° with north winds between 5 and 10 mph. Expect dry conditions and no chances for showers Friday.

Temperatures will dip into the low 40s Friday night and some cloud cover builds into the forecast, along with decent atmospheric moisture.

Saturday starts with patchy fog and warms into the mid 70s with a slight chance for showers.
