Live Northeast Florida radar

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Multiple reports and photos of a waterspout are coming in. Just after 3pm a small, short lived funnel cloud begin to dip down. People spotted the water spout from Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and along the intracoastal waterway, particularly near Beach Blvd. At this time, there are no reports of touch downs or damage.

A warm, unstable atmosphere set the stage for numerous showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon of which some will likely go severe later in the evening.

In a word: summer. This is the time of the year when we can expect showers and thunderstorms every afternoon but this afternoon's weather will be more widespread as moisture streams in from the gulf. When these storms along Interstate 75 meet the sea breeze, we expect strong to severe thunderstorms to erupt near Jacksonville.

With these storms, small hail and gusty winds will be possible along with blinding rainfall and vivid lightning.

Currently there are no watches or warnings in effect but this may change heading into the afternoon.

The best change of rain for Jacksonville will be after 2 p.m., although some showers are already popping up inside the 295 loop as I type this.
