Wet weather by Saturday afternoon

Increasing temps, humidity, & rain chances

Increasing chances for showers may interrupt weekend plans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Increasing temperatures and increasing chances for rain as we head into the weekend, could cause for minor flooding.

Friday started out with isolated patchy fog, especially inland, which quickly dissipated as temperatures climbed from the low 60's into the upper 70's by lunch.  Winds were light, out of the Southeast around 10mph.  Afternoon highs climbed into the mid to upper 80's, but more noticeably the humidity increase prompted "feels like" temperatures into the 90's.  A few isolated storms fired up along the sea breeze, during the afternoon.  They originated between I-95 and Hwy 301, isolated in nature, and faded after sunset as temperatures cooled.

Saturday started out mild, in the low to mid 60's with calm winds.  Saturday morning was the best weather of the weekend- sunny skies, warm temperatures, and mostly dry.  As temperatures climbed during the afternoon hours, it got downright hot.  Actual highs reached the upper 80's, while "feels like" temperatures reached well into the 90's.  The humidity and moisture made it uncomfortably warm and sticky Saturday afternoon.  As the sea breeze built during the afternoon hours, especially as it pushed to the West of I-95, afternoon storms fired up.  Widespread coverage of showers and even thunderstorms dropped between 1 and 2" of rain by Saturday evening.  As temperatures warm up during the day on Saturday, the rainfall potential increased, resulting in the heaviest rainfall totals in our Southern and Eastern counties, during the afternoon hours.  St Johns County could potentially see up to 2" of rain on Saturday.  The ground is saturated from the close to 10" of rain received last week, so minor flooding, standing water, and ponding water could be expected Sunday evening.

Meteorlogogist John Gaughan says, "Anyone who has any plans between 2:00pm and 8:00pm outdoors on Saturday- needs to be paying attention.  These storms are going to fire up quickly, just like last weekend's storms."

After sunset, the storms die down, but overnight rain is possible.

On Sunday, expect fewer showers, some in our Southern areas during the afternoon hours are expected, potentially dropping another .75" of rain.

A cold front pushes through Sunday night, allowing cooler, drier air to build into the area.  This will clear our skies out, lower our temperatures, and dry us out for Monday, and most of the workweek.
