Wild weekend storms likely

Afternoon skies will change rapidly.

Afternoon storms could catch you off guard.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Summer officially starts at 6:51am, making this weekend the first true weekend of summer.  Yet, it has been quite the month, basically normal amounts of rainfall and 13 of 20 days below normal.  Yes, that's right!  Below normal temperatures!  Well, "forget-about-it", the heat is back and with it, big afternoon and evening storms.

Afternoon highs today and Sunday will be in the mid-90s, feel-like temperatures will be as high as 110° in southern Georgia.  Whew!  Now, we add to that higher humidity and a fading front and we have the perfect recipe for big afternoon and evening storms.

These are the type that will "pop" rapidly and everyone needs to be cautious of lightning.  When "the skies begin to roar, time to go indoors".  Not just the golfers either, fisherman are struck three times more often!  Going fishing?  Mid-morning low tides this weekend at Mayport and sunrise is at 6:25am.

It was a beautiful June week in Jacksonville, it couldn't last and it doesn't starting today.
