7-time convicted felon given life sentence

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Louis Wingard was sentenced to mandatory life in prison Friday morning for his involvement in a 2011 home invasion robbery at a Jacksonville motel.

Wingard, 48, was convicted last month on charges of home ivasion robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In August 2011, Wingard and his co-defendant broke into a teenage girl's motel room at Studio 6 on Baymeadows Road. Wingard forced his way inside the room and stole the 18-year-old victim's clothes and money.

At the time of Wingard's arrest, he was wanted in another armed home invasion robbery, kidnapping and carjacking. Wingard's trial date is pending in this case.
A seven-time convicted felon, Wingard has convictions dating back to 1985 for armed robbery and grand theft. He also has a federal conviction for conspiracy to pass and utter false and fictitious instruments and documents. Wingard has been classified a prison release re-offender having committed this crime within three years of being released from federal prison.
