"Education Policy: Why it Matters" is a forum with Dr. Vitti and Mr. Chartrand that will include presentations on Florida education policy, including school grades, school choice, teacher evaluation, college and career ready standards, assessment, classroom funding, class size, digital learning and graduation requirements.

Nikolai Vitti, Ed.d, Superintendent, Duval County Public Schools

Dr. Nikolai P. Vitti was appointed Superintendent of Duval County Public Schools, the nation's 22nd largest school system, in November 2012. Prior to being named Superintendent of DCPS, Dr. Vitti was the Chief Academic Officer of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Before returning to Miami to lead ETO, Dr. Vitti served as Deputy Chancellor of School Improvement with FLDOE, as well as Bureau Chief of School Improvement/Executive Director for Region One/Lead Director for Differentiated Accountability. Dr. Vitti received the prestigious Presidential Scholarship from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and was a member of the urban superintendent program. In 2012, he completed his doctorate from Harvard in education, administration, planning and social policy.

Gary Chartrand, Chair, Florida State Board of Education

Gary Chartrand is Executive Chairman of Acosta, a leading full-service sales and marketing agency that employs more than 30,000 associates and operates 102 offices in the U.S. and Canada. Gary received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the State of Florida in May 2001, and was named to the Supermarket News Power 50 list from 2003 to 2009, indicating the 50 most influential people in the industry. Gary is Chairman of Acosta Inc. He serves on the board for the Chartrand Foundation, Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, St. Vincent's Hospital, Jacksonville Public Education Fund, City Year and The KIPP schools in Jacksonville. Gary was appointed to the State Board Of Education by Gov. Rick Scott in 2011. He is also an enthusiastic supporter of the Wounded Warrior Program, Catholic Charities, Guardian of Dreams Catholic schools and the Diocese of St. Augustine. Gary is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He resides in Ponte Vedra Beach with his wife, Nancy. They have two children, Jeffrey and Meredith.
