2 killed when motorcyclist hits pickup truck

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist and the driver of a pickup truck both died Wednesday afternoon after a collision at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Barkley Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Traffic homicide detectives said the Honda motorcycle heading westbound on Beach Boulevard about 3:15 p.m. went into the intersection on a yellow light and a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck pulled away from a red light early.

The motorcycle struck the driver's door of the pickup.

The motorcyclist, Peter Hapsis, 26, died at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet.

The 71-year-old driver of the pickup truck, Nur Emin Emir, was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police said they have not determined if he was wearing a seat belt or if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.

The westbound lanes of Beach between Kline and Eve were closed for hours after the crash.
