JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A tractor-trailer overturned on Butler Boulevard at Gate Parkway late Thursday afternoon, shutting down eastbound Butler for several hours.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. The wreck not fully cleared until after 8 p.m.

Police said the driver and passenger of the tractor-trailer were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on Butler Boulevard in the right lane and then moved to the center lane in front of the tractor-trailer and braked quickly.

The driver of the tractor-trailer braked to avoid a collision but his vehicle's brakes locked up and the vehicle slid toward the median barrier.

The tractor-trailer hit the center concrete barrier and then rolled onto its right side, coming to a stop blocking three eastbound lanes of Butler Boulevard.

Traffic was rerouted to Southside Boulevard.
