Bortles, Jaguars fall to Chargers

Jacksonville falls to 0-4 on the season

SAN DIEGO – The highly anticipated debut of Blake Bortles lived up to the hype in the rookie's first NFL start, but it was not enough as the Jaguars fell to the Chargers 33-14 at Qualcomm Stadium.

Bortles completed 28 of his 37 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown. But he threw two interceptions and was sacked three times as the rookie showed his inexperience.

The Jaguars trailed 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. But the offense delivered with fourteen points in the second quarter, including a 2-yard touchdown pass from Bortles to Nic Jacobs. The Jaguars signed Jacobs off the Saints practice squad on Tuesday.

Philip Rivers threw for 377 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Chargers improved to 3-1.

Jacksonville fell to 0-4 on the season with all four losses coming by double digits. Their west coast woes continue as the team is just 2-10 all-time in the Pacific Time Zone. The Jaguars return home next Sunday to host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
