JEA customers dealing with power outages for several days
For two mornings in a row, JEA customers in parts of Downtown, Springfield and the Eastside have experienced power outages. More than 2,000 customers have been affected. A JEA spokesperson says they are aware of the ongoing outages and are looking into it but there’s no word on what’s causing the outages.

Fire marshal finds violations at deteriorating Eastside apartment complexes
News4Jax on Wednesday learned from the city that the State Fire Marshal’s Office found several violations at two deteriorating Eastside apartment complexes in Jacksonville that have been the subject of an I-TEAM investigation.
Woman arrested after gun pulled during fight among parents at Matthew Gilbert Middle School
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An altercation between parents Tuesday morning outside Matthew Gilbert Middle School on Jacksonville’s Eastside ended when police were called and one of the adults was charged with possession of a gun on school property. According to a police report, Moenika Ellis, 31, got into a fight with three other parents in the parking lot. According to the JSO arrest report, Ellis never pointed the gun at anyone, but did resist arrest and was also charged with possession of marijuana. He said his daughter had been attacked by Ellis’ daughter during school. “So what I did was, when she said she was attacked, what normal parents do, I go to the school,” Wiggins said.
Man shot on Jacksonville’s Eastside, police say
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office is looking for two men who police said were involved in a shooting Saturday night on the Eastside that left one person injured. The man tried to drive away but was shot in the head, back and arm, police said. They were reportedly wearing black hooded sweatshirts with black skull caps. The Sheriff’s Office said robbery detectives will be taking over the investigation. Neighbors say a teenager died in shooting on Eastside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Homicide detectives said a young man shot multiple times Sunday evening on Jacksonville’s Eastside has died. Officers responded to the 911 call from the Oakland Terrace Apartments on Bridier Street, just west of Haines Street, around 6:40 p.m. Officers could not confirm if the young man lived at the apartment complex where he died. Detectives said what led to the shooting remained under investigation but they did not have any indication this was a drive-by shooting. Neighbors we talked with said this apartment complex has had issues in years past, but it was recently renovated and its troubles seemed to have quieted down.
3 hurt in 2 Jacksonville shootings that occurred moments apart
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three people were wounded Monday night in two separate Jacksonville shootings, both of which occured at about the same time, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Two people were wounded in a drive-by shooting Monday night on the Eastside, according to Sgt. Wilson said the shooting happened at about 7:13 p.m. on East 22nd Street near the intersection of Danese Street. Wilson could not say the age of the victims nor could she say if they were male or female. Bawroski, at about 7:12 p.m., a man in his late teens was shot near the intersection of Fort Caroline and Eveross roads.
60 years later, Ax Handle Saturday now a mural on Eastside
More than 200 white men equipped with ax handles and baseball bats went after the group sitting at a lunch counter. No one tried to stop the men, Hurst said. A mural of the attack can be seen wrapping around the Eastside Brotherhood building at 915 A Philip Randolph Blvd. Dr. Rudy Jamison, along with teachers, artists, students and other community leaders, worked together to get the mural on the Eastside building. You may see several things, but its built around community, Jamison said.
